Protecting rights, fighting terrorism

Fionnuala Ní Aoláin is the newest U of M Regents Professor.

Fionnuala Ní Aoláin, U of M Regents Professor and Robina Chair in Law, Public Policy, and Society, is working to protect people and their rights. 

As the United Nations’ Special Rapporteur on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms while Countering Terrorism, she advises on safeguarding human rights while protecting against terrorism. She also investigates human rights violations. 

“Never has the struggle for individual and collective rights been more important and the challenges we face so real and pressing,” Ní Aoláin says.
