Daniel Buettner, author of The Blue Zones, found that in communities where residents routinely live to 100, people:

  • Walk 
  • Eat beans
  • Stop eating before they’re full
  • Drink a glass of red wine daily
  • Have purpose
  • Slow down
  • Belong to a community

“We think of health as something to pursue with diets and exercise programs. In Blue Zones, people live in a climate where the healthy choice is the easy choice and health ensues,” Buettner said at the donor-funded David A. Rothenberger Lecture at the U’s Medical School last fall.

Next
