Window on wildlife

Tracking baboons in Botswana and monitoring cheetahs in Tanzania is no easy task. By installing heat- and motion-activated camera traps in wildlife reserves in southern and eastern Africa, researchers from the U’s Lion Center are learning about the species inhabiting those areas and how to protect them from decline. Led by Distinguished McKnight University Professor Craig Packer, the Snapshot Safari project is building on work that started in the Serengeti in 2010. Gifts to the U’s African Lion Aid fund have made the installation and long-term maintenance of the cameras possible.

All images were taken in parks and reserves in South Africa.
