Honoring tribal nations
The Minnesota Tribal Nations Plaza, which forms the western entrance to TCF Bank Stadium, celebrates its 10th anniversary this summer.
Made possible by $12 million in support from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC), the plaza is named in honor of the 11 American Indian nations in Minnesota. Each nation is represented by an 18-foot-tall “sky marker” with glass panels that display tribal flags, maps, images, and historical information.
During the past 10 years, the SMSC has also given $3 million to a scholarship that has supported 188 American Indian students at the U.
